Our coaches have the most coaching experience, competition experience and the most International experience. These coaches are ready to pass on their invaluable knowledge in all things Judo once again.

SUNDAY TRAINING
Away training is taking place this Sunday at 10am at the new Judo Dojo in the old YMCA building, 159 Wicksteed Street, Whanganui. Wayne Watson and Gary Davies will be there to help improve your Judo.

Posted by ProDev Administrator at 12:02pm, Thursday 28th June, 2012

Big thanks to everyone who helped out in the recent North Wellington Judo competiton. Was a great weekend of Judo action hosted by our Judo Club.

You will have seen from Mondays Evening Standard paper Hiro on the back and Jason just inside. Both guys had outstanding results winning 2 Golds each, and Jason graded up to orange belt in the tournament. I found an article on Stuff if anyone would like to read it. See http://www.stuff.co.nz/manawatu-standard/sport/7164426/Judo-success-throws-rookie

Congratulations to all of the other competitiors including our Cadets and Juniors for giving it a go and gaining some valuable experience!

Volunteers for North Wellington Judo Comp

We are putting out the call to any seniors, their partners, or parents of the juniors to put their hands up for volunteer work for the upcoming Judo competition. Rosemary has created a volunteer list whcih you will find in the foyer of the dojo. This is a great opportunity to not only help the club, but also help out with a competition that is part of the national circuit. We are fortunate to hold this years event in Palmerston North so we want to show everyone that we can run a successful competition. To do so requires some teamwork and everyone chipping in.

First off, we will be shifting mats from Jonathans house to the IPC Gym this Saturday, starting 9am at 52 Linton Street (just off Ferguson St opposite Kingsgate Hotel). If we could have some able people, that would be great. Rosemary needs volunteers for the Kitchen to work 2 hour shifts. We also need contribution by way of food for us to sell through the canteen. This is one of the few ways we can raise money for our club at this event. If you could contact Rosemary by leaving details on the form in the foyer, that would be greatly appreciated.

The competion runs over 2 days, so assisstance with mat stewards, work on the desks, and other duties is appreciated in support other volunteers from different regions. Feel free to email in questions through the website also.

East Coast Champs

Posted by ProDev Administrator at 12:21pm, Friday 6th April, 2012

The East Coast Champs held in Napier on the 24th of March saw a good number of our club members attend. Some great results with medals going to nearly all those who attended. A special mention for Zane, his first competition, and a solid start to build on. Also of mention, congratulations to Poppy Lenney who got a Silver in the junior girls open, and a Gold in her weight division. Poppy was upgraded to an orange belt within the competition, an outstanding effort and well deserved. Hiro won Gold in the under 66Kg Seniors Mens with the top 4 players all from Japan. Phillip, John, Grace, Xavier and Richard also brought home medals with John winning his first Gold Medal in 20 years for the Restricted Kyu under 90kg. Great effort by all.

Next competition is in Wellington on 5th and 6th. Keep up the good training :)

It has been a big year for the Palmerston North Judo Club ending with a fantastic end of year prizegiving event. We had a cracker afternoon with a strong turn-out and a lot of fun and games.

Special thanks goes to all those who have participated, and in particular the coaches and committee who have helped guide the club through the year.

Of special mention, Hironori Matsuo, who has retained is under 60kg National title has recently been selected to represent New Zealand. This is an outstanding effort and highlights some of the strength and talent within our club. We wish him all the best with his representation.

Juniors will be recommencing on the first Tuesday of the year / term proper which is Tuesday, January the 31st 2012. Seniors will start training 2 weeks earlier starting Tuesday 17th January.

Notification of our AGM will be given at the start of the new year.

On behalf of the club administration, I would like to wish the juniors, their parents, and senior members a very merry and safe Christmas. We look forward to exciting time in 2012!

Hi folks,

After some work and frustration I have succeeded in having several judo programmes scheduled to be shown on Sky tv.

These programmes are half-hour highlights from the top world ranking list events including World Master, Grand Slam, Grand Prix and world championships.

They are made by fighting films and commentated by Neil Adams, former world champion; these are excellent programmes and some great judo.

Below is the schedule of when the programmes will be shown on sky sport 1, 2 and 3. there may also be some unscheduled repeats but no idea when.

Please tell all your friends about this, and if possible send feedback to sky to say how much you appreciate the programmes so that they will maybe show some more in future.

I am informed that after the six programmes this year there will also be some shown early next year and will give the dates of these as they come to hand.

Here's the schedule we have been given, unfortunately the first one has been shown already without them giving us the dates. All times are subject to change without notification.

Episode 1
Wednesday 2 November 7.00 pm Sky Sport 1
Thursday 3 November 6.30 am Sky Sport 1
Thursday 3 November 11.30 am Sky Sport 3
Friday 4 November 12.30 pm Sky Sport 3
Friday 4 November 5.00 pm Sky Sport 3

Episode 2
Wednesday 9 November 7.00 pm Sky Sport 1
Thursday 10 November 5.30 am Sky Sport 1

Episode 3

Friday 18 November 2.30 pm Sky Sport 3

Episode 4
Wednesday 23 November 7.00 pm Sky Sport 1
Thursday 24 November 7.30 pm Sky Sport 3
Friday 25 November 8.30 pm Sky Sport 2
Saturday 26 November 1.00 am Sky Sport 1

Episode 5
Wednesday 30 November 7.00 pm Sky Sport 1
Thursday 01 December 11.00 am Sky Sport 3
Thursday 01 December 2.30 pm Sky Sport 3
Saturday 03 December 8.00 am Sky Sport 2
Wednesday 07 December 7.00 pm Sky Sport 1
Wednesday 07 December 11.00 pm Sky Sport 2
Thursday 08 December 11.00 am Sky Sport 1
Friday 09 December 6.00 pm Sky Sport 2

I suspect the dates for episode 5 are actually episode 5 and 6, but this is the information as forwarded from Sky tv.

As you see, each episode is shown at 7.00 pm on successive Wednesdays, then repeated at different times.

Any feedback you care to give will be welcome and please remember to tell all friends and family etc to watch it and respond to sky tv.

Hope you enjoy the programmes

Seniors Judo still on

Posted by ProDev Administrator at 10:48am, Monday 18th April, 2011
Seniors will be still continuing Judo training at the usual time of 7.30pm while the juniors are taking a well earned break from Judo over the holidays. We will be looking to leave the mats down over the next 2 weeks, so we can focus on training.

Although we have had members on holiday or plagues with injury, particularly from the East Coast Champs, I still encourage you do train within your limits.

Special thanks to Hamish who did a fantastic job with his first grading session for the juniors, and continues to do an excellent job with a new junior syllabus.

Some of you will note that the last Blog post was offline after the email notification email was sent. I had the post hidden while editing the grading table, and some may have tried to view it. It is back up and results for juniors are now showing.
